History/Mission
Once upon a time many years ago, a young Catholic priest in Le Mans, France had a dream of serving others who were in need of education and health care. Born in 1799, the priest was Father Basil Anthony Mary Moreau. From his dream came a vision and from this vision was born a Holy Cross Family of Priests, Brothers, and Sisters to serve the people of God in many parts of the world. Founded by Father Moreau in 1841, the Sisters were named the Marianites of Holy Cross.
Over 150 years ago, this dream and vision found its way to Opelousas, Louisiana, when the Marianites of Holy Cross stepped off a boat in Washington, Louisiana, and immediately began to serve the people of this area.
As the dream and vision evolved, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home was built in 1965 by the Marianites of Holy Cross to meet the needs in this area and surrounding communities for long term health care and short term rehabilitation services in a spiritual and loving environment. C’est la Vie Independent Living Center for seniors was added in March 1986.
